first_imgBerhampur (Odisha), Mar 11(PTI) Opposition Congress today staged a protest before the office of Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, here against the arrest of partys former MLA Ramesh Jena even as the police said the former lawnaker might have links with ponzi firms.Congress leaders alleged that the police implicated Jena in false cases due to political reasons.Party Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati alleged that police booked him in new cases every day, panicking due to his growing popularity in Ganjam, particulraly in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaiks Assembly segment of Hinjili.Senior party leader Lalatendu Bidyadhara Mohapatra also participated in the protest rally and condemned the police action against Jena and his family members.SP (Berhampur) Sarthak Sarangi said, “During interrogation, we came to know about his link with Green India, a ponzi firm. Though police did not get any document in support of it during search of his house, well investigate the matter.”CBI is now investigating the case related to Green India.Meanwhile, police have seized four vehicles, including one bearing Haryana number which was seized from Bhubaneswar, the SP said.While the owner of this vehicle was being verified, the other three vehicles were in the name of Dipu Jena and Anil Nayak, the nephew and driver of the former MLA, police said.Jena was arrested on Sunday on charges of keeping illegal firearms and harbouring criminals. He is presently on a five-day police remand.At least four revolvers, 11 rounds of live ammunition, over 100 land-related documents, cash over Rs 10.70 lakh and about 25 bank account documents were seized from the houses of Jena and his relatives.
