first_img* 55-year-old female (Patient No. 73) The district’s – and barangay’s – first cases were a driver of the Iloilo City Emergency Responders, three barangay health workers and the bookkeeper of the barangay council. * 48-year-old male (Patient No. 66) She was officially confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 to have completely recovered on June 12. * 37-year-old male (Patient No. 104) * 39-year-old female (Patient No. 93) All of the district’s nine indigenous or local cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have recovered. * 48-year-old female (Patient No. 80) On May 6, Arevalo recorded an initial five COVID-19 cases in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur. Mayor Jerry Treñas immediately placed the village on a 72-hour lockdown. The eight other cases who recovered much ahead of Patient No. 78 were the following: During the three-day lockdown, barangay residents stayed in their homes. Offices and businesses were closed. Quarantine passes were suspended and so was transportation (private and public). ILOILO City – Good news to the residents of Arevalo district. Women’s Hockey: Badgers advance into 2020 with comparatively dominant record

first_imgWisconsin’s women’s hockey team (20-1-1) is setting themselves up for yet another deep postseason run. There is no doubt the WCHA presents a set of challenging competitors who the Badgers will have to conquer in order to capture back-to-back national titles. Despite this fact, their current standing both in the WCHA and the nation bodes well for their prospects at capturing yet another national title. It is no secret the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota are two of the largest powerhouses in women’s collegiate hockey. In fact, either Wisconsin or Minnesota has appeared in eight of the last nine NCAA national championship games. Women’s Hockey: Offensive weapons key in No. 1 Badgers’ continuing successThe University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team (18-1-1, 10-1-1 WCHA) is off to another predictably hot start. With little loss Read…This year is no different. Wisconsin occupies the No. 1 ranking while Minnesota remains firmly in second place in all three national polls for women’s collegiate hockey. Given what has occurred throughout the current regular season, the Wisconsin vs. Minnesota matchups remain a solid proxy for determining who will be a contender for the national title. Even if Wisconsin and Minnesota are not the eventual champions, there is little doubt they will make a run at the Frozen Four in March. So far this season, the Gophers have gotten the better of Wisconsin. In their first double header matchup of the season, the Badgers lost the first game before tying the second and ultimately losing in a shootout.  Since that loss, the Badgers are undefeated, including a solid series against No. 10 ranked Minnesota-Duluth in which they outscored the Bulldogs 9–5 over two games. Given the fact that the Gophers and Badgers are the top ranked teams in the nation, it appears useful to compare their performances against common opponents in the regular season to attempt to discern which team has the potential to capture the national title. Make no mistake, this the ultimate goal for both of these teams given their talent level. Women’s Hockey: Wisconsin extends win streak to four games with victories over St. Cloud StateThe No. 2 University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team (14-1-1, 8-1-1 WCHA) traveled to St. Cloud to take on their Read…Minnesota’s only loss on the season is the No. 5 The Ohio State University Buckeyes when they faced off against them in Columbus, Ohio. When the Badgers played Ohio State in Columbus, they captured both games in the series with a combined score of 10–3.Outside of direct competition on Minnesota’s home ice, the games played against Ohio State serve as the best determination of what each of these respective teams are capable of. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin played against Ohio State in Columbus, only one walked away with a win.Last regular season, the Badgers tied in both of their contests against the Buckeyes and barely managed to capture a game against the Gophers in their first series of the year. With all things considered, their current record bodes well for a solid run into the postseason.Even with a favorable record, the Badgers retain a solid group of offensive contributors who have dominated the WCHA throughout the season. When it comes to goals per game, there really is no contest with the Badgers. Wisconsin players currently account for three out of the top six total goal scorers in the nation. Daryl Watts is in first place, Sophie Shirley is in second and Abby Roque is in sixth. The first place goal scorer for the Gophers does not appear until the 10th spot in national rankings. This individual dominance also manifests itself in total goals scored throughout the season. The Badgers currently lead the nation it total goals scored with 110. While the Gophers may be in second place, they have managed to score just 89 goals throughout their regular season schedule, a difference of 21 total goals.Given the fact both Minnesota and Wisconsin play a similar schedule with the WCHA, statistical differences between the two teams have the ability to reveal talent differences that could ultimately lead to favorable postseason outcomes for the Badgers. For example, the Badgers currently rank No. 1 in the nation in aggregate scoring margin. Minnesota is ranked No. 3 in the nation. There is a sizable difference between the two teams that currently sit at the top two positions in the nation when it comes to offensive production and scoring margin. Both of these statistics remain in favor of the Badgers.Women’s Hockey: Daryl Watts’ journey from Boston College transfer to Wisconsin starDaryl Watts started playing hockey around the age of 4, following in the footsteps of her older brother Jackson. Little Read…Though Wisconsin failed to capture a game against Minnesota during their series in Minneapolis, their stats against common opponents remain an encouraging sign the Badgers are, if nothing else, a team that can firmly compete with the Gophers’ talent level. With such competitive programs consistently dominating women’s hockey, it’s always tough to tell who has the best chance to come out on top. Yet, there is little doubt Wisconsin and Minnesota have two of the most talented teams in the nation as things currently stand.Perhaps one of the best indicators as to who will come out on top in 2020 is the matchup set for January 24th and 25th in Madison between the Badgers and the Gophers. If the Gophers take the series, then there is much to be said about their ability to take down the top team in the nation. If the Badgers capture the series, then the race for the national title remains wide open.last_img read more

“We are ready to bring justice to your doorstep”

first_img– acting Chancellor of the JudiciaryResidents of Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) will have swift access to justice now that the Rupununi Magisterial District Court Office has officially been opened. This District Office will also handle administrative matters of the courts at Lethem, Aishalton, Annai, and Karasabai.Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of this District Court on Friday, acting Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards, reflected on theJustice Yonette Cummings-Edwards, Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag)many challenges the region’s residents had faced. She said that sittings of the Magistrates Court in Lethem were held for two weeks on a quarterly basis. “For areas like Monkey Mountain, the Magistrate would come in on the flight, and 30 minutes before the flight goes back, within that period he or she would hold court and then they go back to Georgetown. Could that be justice in the circumstances?” she asked rhetorically.Emphasising that justice is “not one-sided”, Justice Cummings-Edwards said the magistrates were not the only ones affected. “Persons coming from Karasabai and even Aishalton, most of the times court was held here in Lethem and they would have to travel sometimes two days just to get to court; and when the water is high, it would take even longer for them to get to the court,” she detailed. The Magistrate’s Court was previously held in the Police Station in a small roomHis Worship Allan Wilson, Resident Magistrate of the Rupununi Magisterial District.“which was 10 by 10…the Magistrates, the lawyers, the prosecutors, the prisoners, everyone assembled in that room for justice,” Justice Cummings-Edwards related. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) also incurred financial expenses as a result of the court system in that region. For instance, if someone were charged with an unbailable offence, the transportation cost for that person to stand trial before the Chief Magistrate in Georgetown would be the responsibility of the GPF.In cases where persons were not imprisoned and had to be returned to the district to await the next court date, in some cases three months later, room was left for them to take advantage of the system by engaging in other illegal activities, she explained.According to the acting Chancellor, “We have looked at all of those factors, and we have seen the benefits the District here would have for all the residents, for all concerned”.The instrumental role that Justice Carl Singh, former Chancellor of the Judiciary, played in realizing this District Court Office was highlighted and commended. Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards pointed out that Justice Singh, recognising that the conditions under which the law was being administered in the Rupununi were not suitable, acquired the present land on which the Supreme Court was able to construct the District Office. With the opening of the office, residents will now have centralised services for their legal matters, such as bail refunds and payment for licences, among other things.Another plus for the region is the appointment of His Worship Magistrate Allan Wilson as the Resident Magistrate for the Rupununi Magisterial District, which will guarantee timely dispensation of justice.Delivering brief remarks, Magistrate Wilson said excuses can no longer be advanced for delays in the dispensation of fair-play within the District.Magistrate Wilson also reflected on what used to obtain in terms of the space constraints, poor furnishing, and long hours for hearing of cases within the designated two weeks at the Lethem Court. He said the job had to be done in spite of those challenges.“The creation of this sub-registry and the expansion of the Rupununi Magisterial District to include courts at Aishalton and Karasabai will greatly assist the people of this region. No longer will the litigants have to travel long distances to Georgetown…or depend on the Post Office for the payment of child support; and it will also now be easier for domestic violence issues to be addressed in a timely fashion”, Magistrate Wilson pointed out.The Magistrate and other staff are now better accommodated, and are therefore better positioned to adequately provide services which were previously inaccessible within the region.Magistrate Wilson expressed gratitude to the Government of Guyana and members of the Judiciary for the achievement of what is described as a “historic milestone” for the justice sector.Lethem Mayor, Carlton Beckles, also said the advent of regular court hearings would contribute to timely litigation and assist the regional administration in meeting its goals as a township. He noted, “We have joined other municipalities, like Linden, Bartica and New Amsterdam, just to name a few. We will also now benefit, from time to time, (by) the other services provided by this entity; and for these reasons, I pledge our unconditional support”.Mayor Beckles also called on residents to see the court as a “necessary ingredient in the menu of development.”The Supreme Court conducted extensive consultations with Toshaos, the regional administration, residents, the GPF and agencies, particularly the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC).The establishment of the Rupununi Magisterial District Court Office falls under the Justice Improvement Project.last_img read more

HUGE WHALE FOUND WASHED UP OFF COAST OF DONEGAL

first_imgThe dead whale at Maghera Beach.A dead whale measuring more than 20 feet long has been washed up off the coast of Co Donegal. The massive creature, suspected to be a Sperm whale, was found at Maghera Beach at Ardara this morning. It is not known if the animal was alive when it was washed up. There are deep pools of blood surrounding the whale where it has been embedded in the sand.Local amateur photographer Chris Patterson came across the whale after being told about it by a local farmer.“I walk the beach a lot and I have never seen anything like this washed up before.“I was told about it and I went over for a look. I couldn’t believe how big it was. It must be up to 23 feet long. “There is a lot of blood coming out of it and I don’t know how long it has been dead or how it died,” said Chris.Donegal County Council has been alerted to the incident and are expected to examine if action is needed to remove the creature form the beach.Chris added “The birds have already been at it and although it doesn’t smell just yet, I think it will only be a matter of time.“Thankfully the beach is quiet this time of year. If it was summer then this would have caused a lot of problems.” HUGE WHALE FOUND WASHED UP OFF COAST OF DONEGAL was last modified: November 22nd, 2013 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:ArdaraMagheraSperm whalelast_img read more
