Wismar Hill Primary, Pine Street Nursery lead Region 10

first_imgWismar Hill Primary School topped in the primary category, and the Pine Street Nursery School took the lead in the nursery category of the Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Department of Education-staged 2018 Children’s Costume Road Parade in Linden on Wednesday.Students from the various primary and nursery schools in Region 10 lit up the streets of Wismar as they displayed their flamboyant cultural costumes, created to mark the 2018 children’s Mashramani observances.Wismar Hill Primary during the paradeParents, teachers and onlookers cheered as the grand procession made its way along the One Mile Public Road — soca music booming as the little ones gyrated and waved their replicas of the Golden Arrowhead — before culminating at the Bayroc Community Centre Ground.While the carefully designed costumes all depicted the spirit of Mashramani, the majority of the schools opted to showcase ancestral cultural clothing designs. For the winning designs, the Pine Street Nursery revellers wore a historic Amerindian design while their banner displayed the slogan “We coming together, let’s cooperate and celebrate Republic 48”.The Wismar Hill Primary put on a colourful display of the “Guyana Amazon”, which was carried by a banner with the slogan “Cooperate and celebrate Republic 48”.Placing second in the primary category was the Coomacka Primary, while the Mackenzie Primary (“Celebrating Guyana’s flora and fauna” display) copped third. In the nursery category, the Burnham Drive Nursery (“Nourishing our tradition, showcasing our culture” themed display) placed second, while the Republic Avenue Nursery (“Chinese Spring Festival”) placed third.last_img read more
