Redmi 7 vs Redmi 6: Xiaomi reinvents entry-level Redmi

first_imgOn Wednesday, Xiaomi launched a new Redmi device called the Redmi 7 in India. This phone is the successor to last year’s Redmi 6. Whether it is the design, the display, the core hardware, the camera, or the battery, the Redmi 7 is a completely refreshed version of the Redmi 6. Xiaomi Redmi 7 will be available in India for the first time on April 29 at a starting price of Rs 7,999, which is on the higher side, to be honest for a Redmi phone but this time it does come packed with a lot of goodies. This price is for the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model of the phone. The Redmi 7 comes with a fresh gradient finish design — Xiaomi calls it Aura Smoke design — that gives the phone premium touch despite a polycarbonate back. The Redmi 7 comes in three different colours — Eclipse Black, Lunar Red, and Comet Blue. I have tried all three colour variants and can tell you that all of them look beautiful. Overall, I believe the Redmi 7 is one of the best-looking smartphones in its price segment in the country right now. This wasn’t the case with last year’s Redmi 6. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 had thick bezels and bulky build.Apart from the design, Xiaomi has improved the Redmi 7 in almost all aspects. Let’s take a quick look at all the changes Xiaomi has brought in the all-new Redmi 7 compared to the Redmi 6.– Compared to the Redmi 6, the Redmi 7 sports a much bigger screen. The Redmi 6 includes a 5.45-inch HD+ Full-Screen display. In comparison, the all-new Redmi 7 comes packed with a 6.26-inch display with a dot notch.advertisement– The aspect ratio and the screen resolution of the Redmi 7 have been improved. The Redmi 7 comes with 19:9 aspect ratio and screen resolution of 1520x720p. The phone also uses Gorilla Glass 5 on the front. In comparison, the Redmi 6 offers 1440 x 720 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9.–The Redmi 7 includes a waterdrop notch or dot drop notch on the front panel. The side bezels of the phone are way slimmer than the Redmi 6 that comes with thick bezels on all sides.–The Redmi 7 comes with a gradient finish that Xiaomi calls aura smoke design. The gradient finish improves the overall design of the smartphone. The phone also comes in 3 funky colours. In comparison, the Redmi 6 uses single colour design, similar to all the old generation Redmi phones.–The Redmi 7 is more powerful compared to the Redmi 6. The Redmi 7 is also powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 processor. In comparison, the Redmi 6 is run by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor. This suggests that the Redmi 7 comes with Kryo 250 CPU while the Redmi 6 packs Cortex A53 CPU.–The Redmi 7 is an upgrade over the Redmi 6 in the camera department too. On the front the Redmi 7 packs an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The Redmi 6 comes with a 5-megapixel sensor on the front.– On the rear panel both the Redmi 7 and the Redmi 6 come with dual camera modules. The Redmi 7 includes the similar camera module that is in the Redmi Note 7. The phone uses a dual camera module with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing. In comparison, the Redmi 6 uses a primary 12-megapixel sensor and secondary sensor of 5-megapixel with 1.25 micron pixel size for depth shots.–The Redmi 7 comes with a big battery. It includes a 4000mAh battery inside – which Xiaomi says can last for over one day. In comparison, the Redmi 6 comes with a 3000mah battery.Should you buy the Redmi 7?Yes. If you are looking for a good phone under Rs 8,000, the Redmi 7 seems like a good choice for the Indian consumers right now. The phone is a complete upgraded version of the Redmi 6. It comes with great design, powerful Snapdragon 600 processor, big all-day processor, dual AI based camera on the back and more.
